There are only ninety-three United States Attorneys serving the country and its various territories and interestingly, these legal professionals are appointed by the president and have a lot of control over how many Assistant U.S. Attorneys work alongside them. Unlike the potentially decades long local case work in which a Philadelphia PA divorce lawyer might be involved, a U.S. Attorney will often serve for four years during the term of the president that appointed him. Vacancies in the middle of a president's term are generally rare but they do sometimes occur and temporary replacements don't require the same strict approval process.
